There's no need to play Dan to obtain the Possession spell, but it makes things easier as Sarah is straight. 

Cassandra can spawn in two ways: either by enslaving Julia (like you did), or simply by being friends with Sarah (Sarah has to be, IIRC, level 8 or above and not your slave). 

Sarah's chats goes in this order:

INTRO (Drape's class)

SCHOOL HALLWAY (cast Boost)

STREETS (It doesn't bother me)

CASSANDRA (Sarah needs to be I think it's level 8)

During the Cassandra scene, choose to back Sarah up (Sarah loses a bit of affection, but it's fine). Cassandra will now appear in the school hallway and taunt the Protagonist to fight with her. 

In regards to the Possession spell, there's a few criteria:

First, you need to find out about Sarah's home.

Sarah must be level 11 (I think, been a while since I last tried it) or above

You cannot have gone to floor 15 of the dungeon (floor 14 is the last one you can).

In order to find out about Sarah's home, there's three possible ways: 

First, play as Dan and date her and speak about the Lake twice. She'll talk about having to check in on her housing.

Second, if you complete Sarah's Mind (Heroic path), she'll say she's not from town (this is possible as both Dan and Rosa).

Third, if you transform her into a Doll (requires the Stone Skin spell), gain 5 levels while she's inanimate and then turn her back. She'll say she needs to check in on her house again and she'll bring you with her (this is possible as both Dan and Rosa).
