Well, the deal with gender change potions, as stated by the protagonist "they don't really change anything beyond the cosmetic details"... which, to me, sounds like a fucking load of crap. But that might just be.

In Reese's case, it's not due to the gender change potion, per se. It's due to Cassandra throwing it into the lake, causing it to become highly diluted, thus making everyone remember Reese being a guy AND becoming a girl (normally, it'd just change reality somehow so everyone would think you were always the opposite gender).

...I'm not the game creator so I can't really explain the details, but yes, the explanation is fucky at best.
