Yeah, we can talk about the actual rate and what I can afford if he chooses to talk to me again. I had looked up afterwards what a game tester makes on average and google says $10-$12/hr so my guess at 10/hr was randomly right at the normal rate for this exact field. I don't mind paying him more than is normal for a bug tester though; he is a good friend and does good work too.
He did suggest 10/bug at one point, but I didn't know if that was a serious suggestion or not. My fear with a per bug thing is that I'd end up with something like "So, you somehow managed to jumble the text on every line of dialogue in this scene, that's 400 dollars". Might be able to do like a per-bug for passive bug fixing and hourly for active bug fixing maybe? I don't know. I'd have to talk to him about what he actually feels is fair to him. It feels like he has an idea of what he wants, but wanted me to suggest it first? But I am literally made of fail when it comes to money. I usually try to just pay people whatever they want as long as I have the money available to pay it...
